Advert shared on behalf of researchers at University of Manchester
Aims and objectives
The aim of this research is to understand the barriers and facilitators to accessing higher education for individuals with Brain Injury, specifically surrounding the physical and cognitive challenges that may arise from a Brain Injury. From this it is hoped that the researchers can develop university guidance to better support individuals with Brain Injury during their time at university to enable the best experience and outcomes for students.
Who can take part?
Individuals who are students or post-graduate researchers, or members of University staff, with a brain injury in England. Brain injury may include traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury or stroke.
What will the study involve?
The study will involve sitting one 1-1 interview (with the option of having someone join the interview to support them). This will be either in person at the University of Manchester or via Microsoft Teams.
Following this, participants information will be transcribed and anonymised, ensuring that no participant can be identified.
There are no anticipated risks to participants in this study, however, should a participant become distressed during this study, support will be available. Participants should contact the researchers (Rosie Horton or Dr Debbie Smith contact details below) should they become distressed and wish to discuss the study. Alternatively, participants are encouraged to contact student support at studentsupport@manchester.ac.uk, or for Brain Injury specific support, contact Headway on Tel: 0808 800 2244 | Email: helpline@headway.org.uk.
If you wish to take part, please email rosie.horton@manchester.ac.uk.
