Although there is a long road ahead for Sir Alex, we know with the right help, at the right time, there can be life after brain injury.
Someone who knows this best is brain injury survivor Claire Cowlishaw.
Claire had been taking out the bins as usual at her home in Leamington when she inexplicably collapsed in the hallway. Thankfully, she was found by her daughter Lauren who called for an ambulance and she was rushed to Coventry Hospital.
Doctors confirmed that Claire had suffered two ruptured brain aneurysms which caused a life-threatening subarachnoid haemorrhage, leaving her with the lasting effects of a severe brain injury.
With the support of her local Headway group Coventry & Warwickshire, Claire has worked hard on rebuilding her life and despite problems with processing information has even been able to return to work.
“Every brain injury is different, but having been through a similar experience I have an understanding of the challenges Sir Alex will face in the next stage of his care," said Claire.
“I feel fortunate to have had plenty of support, which has enabled me to make good progress and I wish Sir Alex the very best as he continues his recovery.”Back
