Post-traumatic growth (PTG) is an experience of positive change following a traumatic period. While many people experience challenges and hardships with life after brain injury, over time there can be a renewed appreciation of life or a desire to do good or kind acts for others. Headway’s new factsheet explains how this positive change can develop after brain injury, and offers some guidance on how to nurture PTG after brain injury.
Remember that there is no right or wrong way to feel after brain injury, and no survivor should ever be made to feel like they have to feel positive. However, we hope that the new factsheet is a helpful resource for survivors who feel ready to reflect on any positive change within themselves after brain injury.
Headway would like to thank Dr Monica Baseotto, Clinical Psychologist and Dr Trevor Powell, Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, for their helpful feedback and contributions to this factsheet.
You can download the factsheet here or visit our Information Library to browse our full range of brain injury publications.
