The Kuseyo Cup weekend on August 12th and 13th, hosted by The New Forest Polo Club, promises a day of excitement and camaraderie, featuring not only an exhilarating polo match but also an engaging online auction, which is now open to all! The event aims to raise funds for Headway, with all proceeds going towards helping to improve life after brain injury.
Jodie Saunders, a passionate horse rider, faced a challenging road to recovery after a fateful incident during her university days. While riding her horse, an unexpected accident resulted in a brain injury. Reflecting on the accident, she shared, "Initially, the severity of my brain injury wasn't apparent. However, a scan revealed a significant brain bleed that demanded serious attention. My balance was compromised, requiring assistance for simple tasks like walking. Over time, I experienced emotional upheaval, heightened anxiety, lack of concentration, and persistent fatigue. Even brewing a cup of tea became an arduous task."
Jodie's connection with the equestrian world runs deep. Her journey began in 2016 when she joined Fox Pitt's yard for work experience. Her passion flourished, leading her to return a year later. Renowned equestrian figure and multiple Olympic medal winner William Fox-Pitt MBE shares a common bond with Jodie, having experienced his own life-altering fall during a competition in France in 2015, which left him in a coma for two weeks.
Following her accident, Fox Pitt’s yard extended her a new job opportunity as she worked towards recovery, and with this support from her earlier employers, Jodie began her journey of recovery.
This personal interview by ITV racing presenter and William's wife, Alice Plunkett, details Jodie's changes to her day to support her needs during her working day.
"Polo and its incredible community played a pivotal role in my recovery journey," Jodie revealed. "They provided me with unwavering support and encouragement that enabled me to overcome obstacles. To pay this kindness forward, I am thrilled to announce the upcoming polo match on August 13th. This event not only benefits Headway but also aims to spotlight the significance of brain injury awareness."
Jodie’s personal experience has highlighted to her the gravity of brain injuries, inspiring her to raise awareness and provide support to those in need.
Huge thank you to The New Forest Polo Club, Estate Agent, Spencers – and of course to Jodie for working so hard to create this fabulous event in aid of Headway!
We encourage everybody to have a look at the auction items, with some incredible offers, including an exclusive lesson with William Fox-Pitt!
