This year marks ten years since Daisy Board suffered a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a result of a car accident.
Daisy went on to study at Edinburgh Napier University, achieving a First Class Honours in Events. Since then, she has travelled the world and built an extremely successful and fulfilling career.
The accident left her in an induced coma for fourteen days, and in hospital for a further six weeks. After being discharged, Daisy had to learn how to do everything again, walk, talk, write, swim, drive, and cycle – you name it, it had to be re-learnt.
Once confident, outgoing, and sociable, Daisy was determined to get a version of this life back. With an incredible community of supporters by her side, she has gone on to do just that.
“This would not have been possible without my community. I am in awe of them and indebted to them for their love and support - not just for me but for my family who they supported when my future was unknown.”
Daisy has truly surpassed expectations and, at times, belief. Being told that she ‘shouldn’t go to university’, and that her ‘life would probably be smaller’ became just another challenge to overcome.
From the early stages of her recovery, Headway has been a great support for Daisy and her family. Knowing first-hand how valuable and important our work is to brain injury survivors, Daisy has rallied her community to form ‘The Daisy Chain’, where almost thirty of her friends and family will be taking part in Run Bournemouth this October.
Daisy, who will be running the Half Marathon with her siblings, Thomas, Molly and Emily, and others, is also supported by runners in the 5k (including Daisy’s mum!) and 10k (Dad’s turn here!) runs across the weekend. The whole team are raising funds for Headway to help us continue to improve life after brain injury.
Thank you, Daisy and your community for your continued support and fabulous fundraising efforts.
If you would like to take part in Run Bournemouth and support Headway – the brain injury association we would love to hear from you – and who knows, you might even spot The Daisy Chain along the way!
