Joyce Cattanach, 58, from East Lothian, has been the only member of staff at Headway East Lothian for nearly two decades. Supported by a ‘wonderful’ team of volunteers, Joyce has grown Headway East Lothian in her role as a Development Officer since 2007.
Each year, Headway holds a glittering awards ceremony, celebrating the achievements and contributions of people with brain injuries and those who support them. This year, the event was held at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in Mayfair.
Joyce has now received the Extra Mile Award - sponsored by Irwin Mitchell. It was presented by Headway Chief Executive Luke Griggs and Louise Jenkins, Partner at Irwin Mitchell.
Headway – the brain injury association supports a network of independent local Headway charities and volunteer-run branches throughout the UK providing rehabilitation and support in their local community.
The Extra Mile Award is a brand-new accolade celebrating Headway staff working in these local Headway charities.
When asked how it feels to win, Joyce said: "It is amazing, I am super proud of my Headway gang. I'll be showing this to them all, I'm so proud of all of them, it's for them really. I am so looking forward to the future of Headway East Lothian."
Katy Lamb, Trustee and Treasurer at Headway East Lothian (HEL), has worked with Joyce for the last 20 years, since the inception of the Scottish charity, which celebrated its 20-year anniversary in August 2024.
She said: “Joyce is magnificent. She is pivotal to the success of Headway East Lothian – and the support we offer to so many.”
“It was evident to all early on that brain injury survivors across Scotland were going to benefit from Joyce’s expertise, kindness, and empathy. It’s such a natural quality of hers, and it’s what makes the difference to the lives of others.”
Luke Griggs, Chief Executive of Headway – the brain injury association, said: “The leadership and dedication Joyce has shown to Headway East Lothian over two decades has been exceptional.”
“Joyce is a credit to Headway. Her hard work and compassion for all in her community and beyond leaves a lasting impression.”Back
