Bikers take to the road to raise funds for Headway

Mon 31 Jul 2017

Ulysses Club GB is a social club for mature bikers and has been raising funds for Headway over the past year. Read about their fantastic fundraising ideas.

As an active club with over 114 members throughout the country, Ulysses Club GB organises a number of rides and meetings in Britain and abroad for charity.

Being aware of the risk of sustaining a brain injury from a motorbike accident was one of the main reasons the group decided to support Headway.

Martin Lockley the Club President said: “We have all fallen off our bikes at some point.

"Sometimes it's an embarrassing moment when you're going at 2mph in a car park and you lose your balance.

"But it’s the more serious crashes you don't want.

"I had a crash 12 years ago when a car pulled out in front of me at the last minute and I had nowhere to go. I was lucky I didn't have more serious injuries."

The Club always puts safety first, dressing appropriately and investing in good quality helmets.

Festival of Light

The club planned the Festival of Light event to celebrate the start of British Summer Time in late March. The event took place over a weekend and the aim was to take a photo of a particularly famous statues.

Martin said: "We wanted something that could bring us all together. So we did a ride of famous statues around the south including Lady Godiva and the Fine Lady.”

The group can’t collect money on the road unfortunately as they have nowhere to store the funds raised. Instead they direct people to their Just Giving Page and raise awareness of Headway by word of mouth.

"We just give ourselves an excuse to go out and ride and meet people and hopefully they'll give us some money!”

The club raised a fantastic £825.19 for Headway and we are incredibly grateful for their support!
