Headway discusses concussion in sport on BBC World News

Wed 16 Mar 2016

Following a statement by a senior member of the NFL acknowledging the link between repeated concussions and the degenerative brain disease Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), Headway appeared on BBC World News to discuss the issue.

Headway spokesperson Luke Griggs explained more about the link between concussion other degenerative neurological conditions, also speaking about the wider issue of concussion in sport and the need to increase awareness at all levels.

"Our concern at Headway is that we get a cultural change and understanding at grass-roots level where they don't have doctors and ambulances on standby if things go wrong," said Luke. "There is a lot more that needs to be done and we're urging the grass-roots, community-based clubs to take the 'If in doubt, sit it out' approach, and be concussion aware."
