Headway launches revised 'Epilepsy after brain injury' factsheet

Fri 25 Nov 2016

Epilepsy is common after a brain injury, as damage causes abnormal activity in the brain. While for many people seizures quickly become less common, for others epilepsy may persist for weeks, months or even years after the initial injury.

Our new Epilepsy after brain injury factsheet has been written for brain injury survivors who are at risk of or who have been diagnosed with epilepsy. It contains information on what epilepsy is, how it is diagnosed and how the brain injury survivor can have better control over their seizures.

There is also important safety information for family, friends and carers on what to do if someone is having a seizure. Links to other useful organisations are provided at the end of the factsheet.

The factsheet has been edited by Dr Gary Dennis, a Consultant Neurologist at Royal Hallamshire Hospital with an interest in epilepsy.

Download the factsheet in the related resources section below, or visit the Information library to view our full range of publications.

You can also contact the Headway helpline to discuss any of the issues covered in the factsheet.
