It's taken a lot of hard work and a charity dedicating its limited resources to collate an incredible amount of data, but we finally have a picture of ABI occurrence in the UK. And it's not a pretty picture.
Headway's ground-breaking research project, the first of its kind ever produced, has highlighted a 10% increase since 2005-6 in the number of people admitted to hospital each year with a brain-injury related diagnosis. This rise will be no surprise to those running Headway services across the UK and who are under increasing pressure to meet a growing demand.
The report was issued at the start of Action for Brain Injury Week, which once again saw a tremendous amount of local activity as groups and branches took the opportunity to raise awareness of their vital work in the community. A review of the week is included in the centre pages, along with a few of the highlights from Hats for Headway Day - including a couple of famous faces who joined in the fun!
