Headway News winter 2015

Tue 08 Dec 2015

Another jam-packed issue featuring Headway's new website, Eye on the Lewis Moody Foundation, a preview of the Headway Awards 2015, news from across the UK and inspirational stories from brain injury survivors Dave Bowes and Oliver Game

How would you feel if you were accused of being a fraud or a cheat? Imagine if you were giving everything to compete in a sport you loved, challenging yourself to defy the effects of your brain injury while raising awareness of ABI, while all the time having to defend yourself against prejudice and judgemental eyes.

International para-climber Dave Bowes competes across the world, also entering non-disabled events in order to challenge himself. It comes at a cost, with competing exacerbating the effects of his brain injury. But with the effects of his brain injury hidden, Dave also has to cope with people whispering behind his back ‘But he doesn’t look disabled...’

Read more about Dave’s inspirational efforts to challenge discrimination and prove there can be life after brain injury on pages 14 and 15.

Elsewhere in this edition, we preview this year’s Headway Annual Awards, launch our new website, and bring you a bunch of great news stories from across the Headway network.

Finally, we wish all our readers a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
