New booklet: Supporting children when a parent has had a brain injury

Wed 14 Dec 2016

Our new booklet, Supporting children when a parent has had a brain injury, has been written to offer advice to the relatives and close family friends of a child who is struggling to understand why their parent is different after a brain injury.

The booklet also contains information on visiting hospitals with a child, and the emotional and practical impact on the child when the parent returns home.

The booklet has been co-written with a Consultant Neuropsychologist and published expert in the field Jo Johnson, and kindly sponsored by Michael Jefferies Injury Lawyers.

“When a brain injury happens, it is not only the brain injury survivor themselves who are affected, but the whole family,” said Tamsin Ahmad, Publications and Research Manager at Headway.

“Children are often affected by a brain injury in the family, but it can be difficult to know how to approach this sensitive topic with them and make them understand. We hope that this booklet offers some useful guidance on how to support children through this time.”

The booklet is available to download free of charge from our information library, or you can buy a printed copy through our online shop.
