St John’s Buildings raises £22,000 in Headway Challenge Baton year

Thu 09 Mar 2017

St John’s Buildings (SJB) has raised more than £22,000 for Headway during its time as a Challenge Baton holder.

Barristers and staff completed a calendar of fundraising events over the past 12 months, including a 12-hour spinathon, a comedy night, a mindfulness seminar and a four-stop cycling challenge between their chambers in Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and Chester.

The money, which will be split between Headway - brain injury association and its Lancaster and Morecambe Bay branch, will be used to support some of the charity’s established services, as well as go towards the purchase of new facilities in Lancaster, including a minibus.

Chris Ronan, Chief Executive at St John’s Buildings, said everyone at SJB was really pleased with the amount raised.

He said: “This is a cause very close to our hearts, so it is extremely pleasing to be able to provide this donation to Headway.

“While our personal injury specialists have first-hand experience of this type of condition, our partnership has opened the eyes of many of our barristers and staff to the challenges that these individuals face on a daily basis, and the outstanding work that Headway does to enhance their lives.

“Over the last 12 months, we have joined together to go outside our comfort zones to take part in challenges ranging from stand-up comedy to 5-a-side football, and we hope that our contribution helps to raise awareness of brain injury across the UK.”

Anna Kerr, Corporate Partnership Officer at Headway, said: “It has been a fantastic partnership over the last 12 months, and the effort that SJB have put in has been outstanding. We would like to thank all their barristers and staff once again for all their efforts.”

Janet Staff, representing Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay, said: “The funds will play a significant role in raising the standards of the services we are able to provide, and will enhance the lives of some of the most vulnerable individuals in the UK. We would again like to thank everyone who took part in the fundraising.”
